<President-elect Joe Biden & Vice President-elect Kamala Harris>
Former Federal Reserve Chairman Janet Yellen, who was nominated by Biden as Treasury Secretary by the next US administration, insisted that more money is needed to overcome the COVID-19 crisis. He said, It is not the time to worry about the country's debt, he stressed, I have to act boldly right now.
<This is Janet Yellen nominated as Treasury Secretary for US President-elect Joe Biden.>
According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on the 18th 'local time', Chairman Yellen made such a statement in all remarks that were made public ahead of the Senate approval hearing on the 19th. Former Chairman Yellen will attend the Senate approval hearings with key ministerial nominees, including the State Department & the Department of Defense, and she will serve as Treasury Secretary for her responsibility to help the Americans overcome the COVID-19 crisis. It is expected to mention that it is rebuilding the US economy.
Former Chairman Yellen expressed his sympathy with the concerns over the enormous fiscal burden raised by some, saying, "Both I and President-elect Joe Biden are contemplating the national debt issue while promoting the COVID-19 stimulus. She is interpreted by remarks keeping in mind that the Republican Party is opposed to the massive economic stimulus promoted by Biden-elect & Democrats because it could lead to an increase in national debt.
Currently, the nat'l debt of the US is $27.808.2 billion 'about 3,691 trillion won,' which has soared close to $4 trillion last year alone. Fed Chairman Jerome Powell also warned in an announcement on the 14th that the level of debt has already exceeded the sustainable level.
However, former Chairman Yellen said, But the wisest thing we can do in this historical ultra-low interest rate situation is to act boldly. If Biden is going to energize the economy, control the virus, and accelerate vaccine distribution, he said. We need to invest. In fact, they urged the US Congress to pass a large-scale economic stimulus bill.
President-elect Joe Biden also repeatedly proposed the ‘American Rescue Plan,’ worth $1.9 trillion about KRW 2100 trillion, which was previously disclosed, and emphasized the need to directly support the people affected by COVID-19.
